How do you know if you have hearing loss?

If you have been wondering whether or not you have a hearing loss, the following are a few simple guidelines to help you with that determination.  Of course the only way to know for sure is to have comprehensive  audiological testing from Dr. Birchfield at Hearing Specialists of Northern Michigan.
  • You frequently complain that people mumble, speech is not clear, or you hear only parts of conversations when people are talking.
  • You often ask people to repeat what they said.
  • Your friends or relatives tell you that you don't seem to hear very well.
  • You do not laugh at jokes because you miss too much of the story.
  • You need to ask others about the details of a meeting that you just attended.
  • Others say that you play the TV or radio too loudly.
  • You cannot hear the doorbell or the telephone.
  • You find that looking at people when they talk to you makes it somewhat easier to understand, especially when you're in a noisy place or where there are competing conversations.

About Hearing Specialists of Northern Michigan.

Welcome to our new blog! To say we are excited about all of the changes we are going through, especially for our patients, is an understatement. 2010 is going to be a great year at Hearing Specialists of Northern Michigan.

Dr. Kathleen Birchfield has been practicing audiology since 1996. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Audiology from Michigan State University; a Master's degree in Audiology from University of Maryland at College Park and a Doctorate of Audiology degree from A.T. Still University. In addition she is a licensed audiologist through the state of Michigan, holds a certificate of clinical competence (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.

Our staff also includes Melissa Mayfield as receptionist/patient care coordinator and Laura Brown as audiology assistant/office manager.

What do we offer? A 75-day adjustment, or trial period, warranty/repair/loss/damage coverage, follow up services as well as hearing aid cleanings and reprogramming. Our services include comprehensive hearing evaluation, demonstration, visual speech mapping, latest digital hearing aid technology, battery clubs, assistive listening devices, custom ear plugs and much more.

Coming soon we will be implementing a service program for out of warranty hearing aids.

There is a reason why other patients refer their family members and/or friends to us and why doctors refer their patients to us. We offer a free consultation and always have cookies and beverages in our waiting room.
